Heavy Duty Commercial Chevy Trucks

Chevrolet manufactures two heavy-duty trucks, the Silverado 2500 and Silverado 3500. Both have the capability to tow with a convention or gooseneck hitch. These powerful trucks are available with several engine options, but for top towing, the best choice is the Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V8. When equipped with the Chevy Max Trailering Package, 18-inch or 20-inch wheels, and a Crew Cab, this truck can tow 20,000 pounds using a conventional hitch. With a gooseneck hitch, the same engine and package, configured with a long bed and rear-wheel drive, can tow up to 22,070 pounds.

The Chevy Silverado 3500 has even more impressive towing capabilities. Like the Chevy Silverado 2500, the conventional towing capability maxes at 20,000 pounds when equipped with the Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. Where the Silverado 3500 excels is with gooseneck towing. This truck can tow up to 36,000 pounds when equipped with the Duramax engine, Chevy Max Trailering Package, a Regular Cab, a Long Bed, and rear-wheel drive.

Light Duty Chevy Trucks

The legendary Chevy Silverado 1500 handles towing duties with ease. Two engine choices and configurations can tow more than 13,000 pounds. The 6.2-liter V8 engine paired with a Crew Cab, four-wheel drive, and either the standard or long bed can tow 13,200 pounds, while the Silverado 1500 configured with a Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six turbo diesel with either a Crew Cab or Double Cab, rear-wheel drive, and a Standard Bed can tow 13,300 pounds.

Another light-duty option is the Chevy Colorado, which can tow between 6,000 and 7,700 pounds, depending on the engine and drivetrain.

Top Payload Capabilities

If payload capacity is important to you, the top truck is the Chevy Silverado 3500. This massive truck can carry between 4,145 and 7,234 pounds based on the configuration. The Chevrolet 2500 can carry between 3,441 and 3,689 pounds, depending on the configuration.

The light-duty trucks can carry an impressive amount, too. The Silverado 1500 has a maximum payload capacity of 2,260 pounds, while the Colorado can carry up to 1,684 pounds.
